There is no question, London is one of my favourite cities in the world. Culture, history and architecture are just a few of the aspects that make our country's capital city such an amazing place. Its crazy to think I've now lived here for 3 years (including living abroad in New York for 4 months) although it kinda feels like yesterday that I started at London College of Fashion. Living in London is very different to visiting it, you get to see the real parts of the city, experience things that aren't in guide books and I can now (just about) classify myself as a Londoner. I guess like most residents, I'm the one who sighs when the tube is due in anything more than 3 minutes and who avoids Oxford Street like the plague on a weekend! However, my Londoner status dwindles slightly when I open my mouth and a Northern accent creeps out!
I may have lived in London for a few years now, but that doesn't mean I don't still love to be a tourist in my own city. I guess the great thing about London is that I'll never run out of things to do here. I've still got a London to-do list on my bedroom wall which I made when first moving to London where I still love to add and tick off things whenever I get the chance. So when Avios got in touch recently regarding their latest campaign Do More With Avios and asked me if I'd like to do a London tourist activity, I was very keen to get on board and experience more of my city!
I chose to do the London Eye Experience with River Cruise, both of which I have done before but was very excited about doing again. The Eye is an iconic piece of London's skyline and the panoramic views across the city are second to none. It's one of the MUST do tourist attractions in the UK and for the best views, I'd recommend visiting on a clear sunny day or as the sun is setting to make the most of your experience. I loved the opportunity to see London differently and learn about the buildings shaping our skyline.
Next up was the River Boat Cruise, a round trip departing from the London Eye and leading all the way down the Thames to Tower Bridge. This experience is another way to see London how you might not have seen it before, on the water. The trip is also very educational with a tour guide explaining a lot about the history of the Thames and the buildings sitting by the waterside.
